LEVEL 1B EVIDENCE
Hyperthermia Treatment for
Bone Metastases
Hyperthermia significantly improves relief of painful bone metastases to radiotherapy, increasing the 3 month complete response from 7.1% in RT alone, to 37.9% in the combination group, an increase of more than 433%. Almost double the amount of patients achieved a zero pain score (BIP) in the combination HT + RT group; with pain relief lasting 3x longer, viz. 7.9 weeks VS 24 weeks, and beyond length of trial follow up.

Comparing the Effectiveness of Combined External Beam Radiation and Hyperthermia versus External Beam Radiation Alone in Treating Patients with Painful Bony Metastases: a Phase III Prospective Randomized Control Trial.

The accumulated CR at the third month after treatment was higher for the RT+HT group, i.e., 58.6% vs. 32.1% respectively (P=0.045).

Locoregional Hyperthermia can be safely combined with bisphophanate therapy and chemoradition, and causing no additional side effects or
long term morbidities
